Mystery Combat Man IV: The Town With No Name (Arizona, 1888)

Mystery Combat Man IV: The End of Time is the gripping final installment in the legendary Mystery Combat Man series of Source Engine mods. The story follows the Mystery Combat Squad, led by the Mystery Combat Man on their time-traveling and globetrotting quest to save the timeline of Earth from meddling by nefarious forces.

In the old west, a force of Terminator Odells cosplaying as Mexican banditos are terrorizing the Town With No Name. Operating from a fort nearby, they have constructed a makeshift rocket tank out of a minecart and various scrap metal to patrol the area. Mystery Combat Man arrives on the scene and sets out to bring law and order to the derelict town.

Building this level was quite difficult, as there was a lot of displacement terrain involved which takes a long time to sculpt properly. On top of this were the many rocks made of both level geometry and static models, which were another time sink to place down individually. Working on the architecture was a relief in comparison. I chose to make the layout linear as this mission appeared very early in the game and thus making a level with a lot of open exploration would be quite overwhelming.
